” Although I’ve long been a believer in the benefits of Pilates to the body as well as the mind, I find myself more enthusiastic than ever, thanks

to Art and Science.” – Mona Mesereau

“I am taking the Movement Class at Art and Science and I am seeing incredible changes in my mobility and in my balance. I get the double

benefit of doing the exercises in the class but also doing them at home and while traveling.”  -Leslie Vinton

As a newcomer to the city, I was thrilled to discover Pilates Art and Science, and I believe my practice has greatly benefited from the high level of instruction available at this studio. Each instructor I’ve encountered approaches the art of teaching Pilates in a slightly different way, and I find myself pondering the instructional nuances of each class long after it has ended. Although I’ve long been a believer in the benefits of Pilates to the body as well as the mind, I find myself more enthusiastic than ever, thanks to Art and Science.

I have nourished a personal myth that if I could attain more foot stability, this would reduce many problems that I have with my knees. This is difficult as I have bunions that roll my feet to the outside and set up a string of related tight muscles on the outside of my legs and make me vulnerable to bouts of immobility with knee pain. Serene noticed my feet and said, “I can help you.” No other P.T. or health professional has ever said that.

She was right; she has helped me. After several months of sessions, I have more stability now. I can execute one-legged yoga poses with more ease and my Tai Chi form is less shaky. My knees have been well behaved as of recent. Serene’s work is a much more humane route than bone-breaking, pin-placing bunion surgery that a podiatrist recommended. I am very pleased – she is the best!!

I cannot say enough about Serene’s mastery of physical therapy. She saved me from having knee surgery in a few short sessions, and also alleviated chronic rib pain I had suffered for two years.

I had tried many other approaches to get relief from my back and sciatic pain. In desperation I called Serene. She got me in that day! She is so intuitive with her approach. She listens intently and you can almost see her mind digesting the information you give her. She has really helped me.

I would highly recommend Art and Science!

“I am taking the Movement Class at Art and Science and I am seeing incredible changes in my mobility and in my balance. I get the double benefit of doing the exercises in the class but also doing them at home and while traveling.”

“After completing full fitness, I feel like the world is my oyster.  For so long I would dream of these physical goals and then realize I couldn’t actually do them.  Now I feel like all those limits have been lifted and I’m free to do more than dream, whether about body building, dancing, or hiking a bunch of 14ers.”

“It is pretty amazing that I just painted my whole bathroom this weekend and I am not debilitated!”

Employee Testimonials

“I have been a physical therapist in many different settings and appreciate the unique, collaborative approach we have at Art & Science very much. All members of our team work together to make sure our patients/clients receive the best care.  Patients/clients receive the benefit of all of our skill sets collaborating to resolve complex issues.  Owner/PT Serene’s treatment involves largely manual therapy while my focus is normally therapeutic exercise and pilates rehabilitation. Often we concurrently treat the same patients to focus on both symptom relief and flexibility, strength and stability. We also have expert pilates instructors, Gary and Julie, who focus movement sessions on what will benefit the clients the most in achieving goals. PTs and pilates professionals work together to transition patients through healing to return to full function. Our Full Fitness program is an innovative program which emphasizes the clients’ goals. Our excellent trainer, Tom, with guidance from our Physical Therapists,  leads clients through 6 weeks of training sessions which are specifically designed to address enhancing individual skills. I am so happy to be part of a program that is helping people safely reach and exceed their personal goals and a team that uniquely guides patients/clients to whole body health and wellness.”

“I can honestly say that this studio is a breath of fresh air. By eliminating the loud music, over-crowding and competition, commonly found in most fitness centers, you are left with an environment that permits concentration and promotes learning. ”
